Nevada Corrections Victim Services Unit

The Victim Services Unit within the Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC) serves as a point of contact within corrections that is sensitive to the needs of crime victims. Through this office, crime victims, their family members and interested or threatened parties can receive assistance with any of the following:
  1. Registration of all crime victims for the notification of release of their offender from the custody of NDOC
  2. Notification of an inmate’s escape from the custody of NDOC
  3. Advocacy on behalf of victims concerning their particular needs in the correctional process, including but not limited to: situations involving harassment by inmates, compliance with court mandated conditions, unwanted contact, etc.
  4. General information regarding the status of offenders in the custody of or under the supervision of NDOC, including parole eligibility date, projected expiration date and sentence structure
  5. Referrals for crime victims to other state, federal and community based services Notification of execution dates along with preparation and orientation for victims who choose to be present at an execution
  6. Attendance with victim to Parole Board hearings, Psychological Review Panel hearings, and executions
  7. Notification to Crime Victims -- Only victims registered with the Victim Services Unit will be notified of offender information. A notification request form can be downloaded from this site and mailed to the Victim Services Unit. Victims registered to be notified of all release information can expect to receive written notification prior to the offender’s release. The Victim Services Unit will notify registered victims when any of the following occurs:
  • The inmate is released from prison having completed his sentence Escape and/or recapture of inmate
  • Death of the inmate
  • Public hearings conducted regarding the inmate
  • Legal name change of the inmate
  • Application of the inmate to participate in residential confinement programs
